BBC 6Music could become Radio 2 Extra

BBC 6 Music could be reinvented as Radio 2 Extra in a bid to stem the public outcry over the axing of the digital radio station, according to the Sunday Times. MediaGuardian last month revealed that the BBC's overhaul of its radio output included the launch of new spin-off stations in the same mould as 5 Live Sport Extra, and 6Music DJ Steve Lamacq raised the possibility of an evening only service called Radio 2 Extra, comprising the best shows on 6 Music. A BBC spokesman said: "We would like to clarify that there are currently no proposals for BBC Radio beyond those outlined in the Strategy Review." More than 170,000 people have joined the Facebook group Save BBC 6Music.
