Radio listeners almost choked on their cornflakes this morning after a BBC 5 Live host made a very sweary remark about hapless Transport Secretary Chris Grayling.
The airwaves turned blue during the station’s breakfast show during an early morning segment on the scrapping of Failing Grayling’s botched probation privatisation.
In an exasperated moment of saying what the entire country is thinking, at around 6.50am, host Rachel Burden said: “Chris Grayling…erm…seems to have been in charge of various departmental…”
Co-host Nicky Campbell tried to help, suggesting: “…departments?”
Burden continued: “Gaffes? F**k ups? Management controversies?”
“And yet he’s still there in cabinet.”

Campbell noted: “He has his critics, doesn’t he?”
A few minutes later, Burden apologised for her filthy language.
She said: “By the way…I think a bad word may have slipped out, although that wasn’t the intention. It wasn’t what I thought I’d said.
“So if anybody heard bad language earlier on, that wasn’t what was supposed to happen.”
Nicky Campbell, clearly intrigued, asked: “What, kind of unconsciously?”

Burden replied: “I don’t know. Let’s not get into it. I thought I’d said something else, but never mind.”
Campbell said: “I thought we were just chatting like we normally chat.”
Burden said: “Well, yeah. Exactly. Anyway, apologies to anyone, obviously, who was offended by that.”
