Baz Ashmawy tells of heartache as he can't see mum Nancy as she's cocooning at home

TV star Baz Ashmawy told of his heartache that he can’t hug his famous mum Nancy and said she’s keeping up to date with him through his viral Covid-19 videos.

The 45-year-old added: “Nancy is good, she’s at home and cocooning, I talk to her everyday on Zoom.

“It’s hard not physically seeing her, thank God my sister is with her. That’s the thing, there are so many tools nowadays to stay in contact, you don’t have the ability to see them and touch them, that’s what I miss the most, she’s loving the videos I’m putting out.”

Before strict isolation measures were enforced, the Emmy award-winning star of 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy teamed up with UCD professor Paddy Mallon to offer hope in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Now their series of videos offering positivity during the lockdown have gone viral with more than 2.4 million hits.

Dad-of-six Baz said: “I hosted a HIV ball for Paddy a year ago. He’s great, he knows what he’s talking about.

“I think people need a bit of light and encouragement, it’s a very up and down thing.

“I put the videos out on social media and I find they’re giving people a bit of a lift.

“There are people dying and that’s tragic, but on the flip side we’re doing quite well, if we just keep at it, it’ll come out good for us.”
