Baz Ashmawy admits he can't bare to think of mum dying ahead of filming new RTE series

Baz Ashmawy admitted he can’t bare to think of his own mother dying - ahead of filming a new series with her about Ireland’s obsession with death.

Best known for his Emmy Award-winning series 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy with his mum Nancy, Baz announced the popular pair are returning to RTE with a new series about death.

However, while the two part series will see them focus on Ireland’s obsession with the funerals and wakes, Baz admitted he doesn’t like to think about the topic too much himself.

The 44-year-old presenter told Irish Daily Mirror: “It’s a documentary on Ireland and our relationship with death and me and her are kind of going on a little journey to look at it and yeah it is just an excuse to get back on the road with my mum.

“It’s just good fun, it is just good craic. It doesn’t feel like work when I am doing it with her and she wanted to do something so it is just like yeah, why not.

"So it is something we are both interested in so we thought we would do a light hearted look at it.”

The Dubliner, who is currently doing RTE’s DIY SOS, added: “I’ll probably start filming it in December so it will be the end of December, probably even New Year.

“It’ll just be me and mum looking into the relationship with death and Ireland’s fascination with it, wakes etc, because it is an Irish thing.

“It’s only when you go to other countries, like the English wait 7 days before they bury someone it takes ages.

“And in Ireland, they are like weddings. They are great craic. They are brilliant.

“So it is just something, my mum is really comfortable talking about it because she is in great health and it’s not something on the immediate on the worry.

“But we just thought it would be a fun thing to do together and have a giggle about."

Meanwhile, when asked if death it something he worries about, after filming a show — which saw him put his mum Nancy in death-defying situations, the dad-of-six added: “I don’t really think about it.

“I wouldn’t be able to. I’ve done such crazy shit in my life that you wouldn’t be able to do it if you were thinking about the consequences the whole time.

“I’m quite extreme like that.

“And I wouldn’t like to be thinking about my mum dying or anything like that, like I wouldn’t even have a conversation with her about it.

“So that is why I thought it might be an interesting topic to discuss.”
