Baylor running back Johnny Jefferson will miss the entire 2016 season due to 'personal issues,' interim head coach Jim Grobe said in a statement on Friday.
Jefferson missed the season opener against Northwestern State last week with a foot injury from being stepped on at practice and sore ribs from a car accident. Grobe expressed hope that Jefferson would return to the program after the season.
"Johnny, while still a member of this team, in addition to healing recent injuries is taking some time away from school to deal with some personal issues and hopefully will rejoin the program for spring semester," Grobe said in his statement.
Jefferson rushed for exactly 1,000 yards last season, capped off by a breakout 299-yard, three-touchdown performance in the bowl game against North Carolina with starter Shock Linwood out with an injury.
