Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Champions League tie to be played behind closed doors

Chelsea's Champions League round of 16 second leg clash against Bayern Munich will be played behind closed doors.

This has been confirmed by Sport Bild's head of football and Bayern expert Christian Falk.

Because of fears surrounding the coronavirus spreading even further, Blues supporters won't be allowed inside the Allianz Arena as the team attempt to overturn a 3-0 first-leg deficit.

As per Bild, a decision was to be made today (Tuesday March, 10) at a cabinet meeting.

Therefore, as many as 14 members of the Bavarian cabinet are responsible for making a decision on for the Bayern Munich vs Chelsea clash to be played behind closed doors.

Health Minister Jens Spahn said on Sunday that the plan in Germany is to slow down the virus' spread.

"Coronavirus has been in Germany since Wednesday last week," he said on Twitter. "Our priority now is to slow its spread.

"The slower the virus spreads, the better the healthcare system can cope."

This now means that half of the Champions League ties in the next two weeks have been ordered to be played behind closed doors - and that figure could rise further.
