Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski responds to Thiago message ahead of Liverpool transfer

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has issued a goodbye message to Thiago Alcantara ahead of his imminent move to Liverpool.

The Spain international is on his way to Merseyside to complete the formalities of a transfer from the Champions League winners, which is worth an initial £20m and a further £5m in bonuses.

Thiago had already penned an emotional farewell message to the Bavarian side ahead of his move and he has now earned a response from Lewandowski.

"It was a pleasure to play with such a magician like you. Gracias Amigo," he posted on Twitter, along with a football and magician's hat emoji.

The striker was responding to Thiago's own farewell message to current European champions Bayern Munich as he prepares to leave after seven years in Germany.

This morning, t he midfielder tweeted a message to his former club and its fans, saying; "Forever grateful @fcbayern! Bavaria will always be a piece of home for. #MiaSanMia" and in a special video, he spoke out to say goodbye to the German giants.

Thiago is set to be Liverpool' s second signing of the transfer window, following on from the capture of 24-year-old left-back Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos.

The Reds opened talks with Bayern on Monday and have agreed a £20million deal with an additional £5m in add-ons.

A four-year contract will be signed after a routine medical is undertaken on Friday and the Spain international leaves Bayern after helping them win the Champions League in his final game last month.

Thiago will wear the No.6 at Anfield but Sunday's visit to Chelsea will come too soon for the incoming midfielder.

Liverpool travel to Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup next Thursday but a debut at home to Arsenal a week on Monday is more likely to be the case for a player who has won Europe's top prize with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
