Bayern Munich and Germany star Jerome Boateng has told Chelsea fans they will see "another Timo Werner" this summer and into next season.
Wener has attracted mixed reviews on the back of his first season following his £47.6million from RB Leipzig, managing 12 goals and 15 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions.
The Germany international picked up after the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, appearing to regain confidence, but he still received criticism for some of his missed chances, despite helping the Blues claim a Champions League title.
But those sort of bumps along the road are to be expected when a player is swapping countries, according to Werner's Germany teammate Boateng, who is backing the Chelsea star to return as a different prospect ahead of next season.
"Timo has changed country, club, playing in a new league. It is not so easy," Boateng told BILD. "Nonetheless, he scored his goals, provided assists, was present, went through a hollow and came out and now he's the Champions League winner.
"For me it has been a positive season with the usual ups and downs. It makes him bigger and stronger and he learns from it.
"At the Euros, we will see another Timo Werner, a hungry Timo. A Timo with more arrogance, because he has just won the Champions League.
"It carries you. He will show who he really is."
Werner will be looking to continue his development next season after he returns from Euro 2020 with Germany, where he will not play alongside Boateng after the defender was left out of the squad, but he himself has been linked with Chelsea.
Boateng is out of contract at Bayern Munich this summer and he will join defensive teammate David Alaba in leaving the club, becoming available for a free transfer ahead of next season.
