Bayern Munich's transfer plan for the 'new era' that is bad news for Chelsea and Arsenal

Bayern Munich deputy chairman Uli Honess has confirmed that he would like to bring Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz to the Allianz Arena.

The Germany international has attracted interest from across European football and has been exceptional since the Bundesliga's restart, scoring five goals in four matches.

That has accelerated links between Premier League clubs and the 20-year-old, with Havertz establishing himself as one of the hottest properties in European football.

Football is back – but how will it work?

However, a fierce fight is likely to take place for his services and Bayern's interest in Havertz has now been confirmed - although Honess isn't confident of a deal taking place.

"I believe that we are on the threshold of a relatively great generation," he told Bayern 1.

"When I think that we managed to extend with Manuel Neuer, and we have Joshua Kimmich, Niklas Sule, Robert Lewandowski and hopefully David Alaba and Thiago Alcantara [also agreeing contracts], and I also hope with Leroy Sane, with [Kingsley] Coman, [Serge] Gnabry, a young, developable team.

"I can imagine, if everything goes well, that a new era is just beginning at Bayern Munich.

"We would certainly like to have Kai Havertz but, at the moment, it is so that one does not know exactly what the economic future of all football is.

"I would like to see him in Munich from a sporting perspective, but as of today I honestly cannot imagine it, although I would like to see it."
