Bayern Munich's rampant stars "overpowered Chelsea on whisky and beer"

The Bayern Munich stars reportedly enjoyed a beer and whisky fuelled drinking session in their hotel bar less than 24 hours before thrashing Chelsea in the Champions League.

That is according to rock legend Jon Bon Jovi, who was staying in the same hotel as the German giants on Monday night.

Bundesliga champions Bayern took a giant step towards the quarter-finals of the competition with Tuesday's resounding 3-0 success at Stamford Bridge.

A second-half brace from Serge Gnabry, followed by Robert Lewandowski's 39th goal of the season, did the damage as the Blues were comprehensively outclassed in the first leg of the last-16 tie.

He told talkSPORT:  "I was minding my own business in the bar and the team were in there the night before last and how they, on the power of whiskey and beer, overpowered Chelsea last night doesn't say much for Chelsea's drinking habits.

"The Bayern guys were certainly sipping whiskey and having a good old time and then they went and shellacked Chelsea. I'm going to get everybody in trouble."

It's no secret that the German giants love a beer or two - and they are often seen descending on Munich for the city's annual Oktoberfest beer festival.

And they may have had a few more beers on Tuesday night, too, after romping to a comfortable victory in west London.

Gnabry fired two goals in four minutes to give Chelsea a Champions League mountain to climb as Bayern Munich stung the 10-man Blues 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Former Arsenal youngster Gnabry and arch finisher Lewandowski twice punished Chelsea with deadly one-two combinations to secure a comprehensive win in west London.

Bayern boss Hansi Flick declared Poland hitman Lewandowski to be "in the form of his life" in the build-up to this last-16 first leg, and the 31-year-old duly tapped home a third for the rampant Bavarians.

Chelsea's miserable night was compounded by a red card for Marcos Alonso, who was dismissed after a Video Assistant Referee review ruled he had whacked Lewandowski in the face.

The Blues will also be without Jorginho for the return leg in Munich on March 18, after the Italy midfielder picked up a cheap yellow card for dissent.
