Bayern Munich respond to Manchester United Thomas Muller transfer speculation

Bayern Munich officials have played down the suggestion that Thomas Muller could leave the club and join Manchester United in the January transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are interested in adding a new striker to their ranks during the season and the latest reports suggest Muller could be the solution to their problems.

The 30-year-old forward has been out of favour with the German champions since the start of the current campaign with most of his playing time coming from the bench.

Despite a recent lack of football Muller played the entire 90 minutes as Bayern defeated Union Berlin over the weekend, and after the game club sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was asked about the reports.

"That’s a story you want to write [Muller being sold]," he told Sky Sports.

"We have two players out for months and you are trying to tell us to sell a player.

"There’s no reason for doing this.”

He was not the only Bayern official to rubbish the reports with Bayern CEO Karl-Heinze Rummenigge reiterating that he 'cannot imagine' the forward leaving the club anytime soon.

Muller sparked the initial reports earlier this season when he admitted he could seek a move away from the Allianz Arena if his playing time did not improve.

"If the coaches only see me as a substitute in future, then I have to start having a think,"  Muller told Kicker.

"I’m too ambitious for that.

"I've only just turned 30, I'm top fit and I'm hungry for success, both with Bayern and also personally.

"I'm absolutely convinced that I can help the team with my abilities."
