Bayern Munich respond to Leroy Sane to Manchester United transfer rumours

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has rubbished suggestions that Manchester United have made an enquiry for Germany international Leroy Sane.

According to a report by the Mirror, United have made a 'shock enquiry' for the former Manchester City star as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the transfer window closing at the start of next month. United are keen to add a wide forward to their armoury and have been linked with Ajax ace Antony for much of the summer.

However, the Dutch heavyweights are determined to keep hold of the Brazilian, meaning that United are set to be forced elsewhere in pursuit of new attacking talent. The Reds are currently reasonably well-stocked in the wide areas, boasting Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Anthony Elanga and Alejandro Garnacho, all of whom are capable of playing on the flanks.

Nevertheless, they remain keen on adding a new option to their pool of attacking options. But it appears as though Sane won't be the man, with Bayern shooting down reports that United have made a move for his signature.

"There's no truth to that," Salihamidzic told Sky90. "He's an important player for us. There [is] nothing to say about that at all."

Sane, who will be looking to help Germany wrestle the World Cup back off France in Qatar later this year, joined Bayern from City in July 2020 in a deal worth more than £50million. He has been a big success for Bayern so far, helping them win six major trophies since his arrival in Munich.

Sane, who has scored 25 goals in 91 appearances for the Allianz Arena outfit, faces an uncertain future at Bayern following Sadio Mane's arrival from Liverpool earlier this summer. Mane started Friday's Bundesliga opener against Eintracht Frankfurt alongside Serge Gnabry in attack, leaving Sane on the bench.
