Bayern Munich move means Callum Hudson-Odoi's Chelsea future is still in doubt

Callum Hudson-Odoi will not be moving to Bayern Munich this summer, but that doesn't mean the interest has gone away.

The Bundesliga champions made their move for the England international on Saturday with a loan deal, with a £70million option to buy thrown in.

It was swiftly rejected by the Blues, and with that the interest for this summer has faded by the Champions League champions.

Instead, the Germans have gone back to a former player and have loaned Douglas Costa for the 2020/21 campaign.

The Brazilian winger is certainly just a short-term option for Bayern, however, with no option or obligation to buy involved, and Costa now 30 years old.

Hudson-Odoi had a stuttered beginning to the season, and he made his first Premier League start of the campaign in the 4-0 rout over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Frank Lampard insisted that the winger was wanted at the club, saying after the win: "Callum is absolutely part of my plans here. We have [Christian] Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech injured before Christian came back in today.

"We need options and what Callum showed today and the second half against West Brom is exactly what he needs to show. I am pleased with him."

Despite the fact that Chelsea have kept hold of the youngster for now, the rumours will not disappear in the long-term and next summer the German side are likely to step up their interest once again.

It is going to be a big campaign for Hudson-Odoi, who suffered last season after coming off the back of a horrendous Achilles' tendon rupture.

But there is hope that this season he can burst on to the scene and start to fulfil some of the potential which made Chelsea hand him a long-term deal.

However, if he does, then the Germans are going to be looking to add him to their attacking ranks, having added Leroy Sane from Manchester City in this window.
