Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac apologises to Man City for Leroy Sane transfer comments

Manchester City have received an apology from Niko Kovac after the Bayern Munich manager publicly stated he was confident Leroy Sane would be joining the German club this summer.

The Bundesliga champions are keen to bring Sane to the Allianz Arena following the departures of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben at the end of last season.

Kovac's comments didn't sit well with Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who hit out at the manager following Bayern's 6-1 over Fenerbahce on Tuesday night.

"I did not like what he said," the former Bayern star told German publication ZDF.

Kovac issued an apology to City after the match, saying: "We talked about it. Maybe I was too offensive in that interview. I talked to Pep and apologised because of it.

"I would like to apologise to the club, too. I will restrain myself in cases like this in the future."

Bayern club's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic also weighed on the matter, telling ZDF: "We are all well advised not to talk about other players who are under contract with other clubs.

"That's why Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that."
