Bayern Munich legend Thorsten Fink 'interested' in Hearts job with contact 'made' with Jambos chiefs

Bayern Munich icon Thorsten Fink has put himself forward for the vacant Hearts job, according to a report.

The Jambos are currently without a permanent manager since Robbie Neilson's dismissal at the start of next week, with Hearts B coach Steven Naismith currently in the role on an interim basis. The former Scotland international's first game at the helm ended in a 1-0 defeat to city rivals Hibernian at Easter Road last weekend, as the Gorgie's side slump continues.

That derby day loss was a sixth on the spin for the Jambos, who have relinquished their firm grip on third place in the Premiership table to a resurgent Aberdeen side under Barry Robson.

The Dons now sit five points clear of Hearts in fourth, with the coveted third spot likely to guarantee European group stage football once again next season.

But according to a report by Edinburgh Evening News, German boss Fink wants to return to management in Europe, and has chucked his name into the hat for the vacancy at Tynecastle.

The report states that the 55 year old, who won the Champions League as a player with Bayern in 2001, has had his representatives initiate contact with chiefs at Hearts, as he plots a return to football having been without a club since leaving United Arab Emirates club Al-Nasr in May 2022.

Fink had previously managed the likes of Vissel Kobe in Japan, Austra Wien, Hamburg and FC Basel, who he led to consecutive league titles in 2010 and 2011.

During his successful playing career, Fink worked under renowned coaches such as Winfried Schafer, Giovanni Trapatoni and Ottmar Hitzfeld, and now wants to take on the Hearts job to fire them back into European contention.
