Bayern Munich legend says 'door isn't completely closed' on Thiago return from Liverpool

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus wants his former club to re-sign Thiago Alcantara from Liverpool.

Thiago made the switch to Anfield last year and Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has since revealed Thiago’s exit was a “great loss”.

The midfielder played a vital role in helping Hansi Flick's side claim the treble last season and they'd just won the Champions League before the Spainard signed for the Reds.

The completed transfer was hailed as a great bit of business for Jurgen Klopp but injury problems and the coronavirus pandemic have both impacted Thiago's start to life with Liverpool.

In Germany, on Sky Deutschland via SportWitness , there are claims surfacing that the playmaker has "rarely been able to convince at Anfield" - despite his excellent performance in the Champions League against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night during the 2-0 victory.

Now, Rummenigge’s comments in which he also stated that Thiago "hugged me for five minutes and cried” have prompted Bayern legend Matthaus to urge the Bundesliga giants to bring the player back to the Allianz Arena.

“How about Bayern bring Thiago back to Munich? He’s not getting on at Liverpool and in Munich he is missed by Hansi Flick and the fans,” Matthaus - who played 410 games for the club - said via SportWitness .

“Anyone who says goodbye to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge so emotionally, the door is certainly never completely closed.”
