Bayern Munich interested in signing Newcastle right-back Kieran Trippier

Bayern Munich are interested in signing Newcastle and England right-back Kieran Trippier.

German giants Bayern Munich are reportedly keen on signing Newcastle and England right-back Kieran Trippier. According to Sky in Germany, Bayern's pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain's Nordi Mukiele on loan has hit a roadblock, leading the club to consider Trippier as an alternative option. The 33-year-old defender has caught the attention of Bayern, managed by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, who have been extensively discussing his potential transfer over the past couple of days.

Trippier, who joined Newcastle for £12 million from Atletico Madrid in January 2022, has shown promise this season with seven assists in 19 Premier League matches. However, his performance has recently taken a dip, characterized by several mistakes leading to goals in Newcastle's defeats to Everton and Tottenham. In the Carabao Cup quarter-final loss against Chelsea, Trippier's clumsy backpass cost his team a late equalizer, resulting in a penalty shootout defeat.

Meanwhile, Newcastle is among the Premier League clubs showing an interest in Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips. West Ham and Crystal Palace have also made contact with the treble winners regarding a possible loan move for the England international. In addition, Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are also believed to be considering a potential move for Phillips. The midfielder is eager to secure regular playing time ahead of this summer's Euros in Germany, as City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that he does not see a place for him in his lineup.

Newcastle is also engaged in talks with their Brazilian forward Joelinton about a new long-term contract, with 18 months remaining on his current deal. However, negotiations have been ongoing without a resolution, and concerns have arisen that Joelinton may miss the rest of the season due to a recurring quad injury. A recent scan has recommended surgical intervention, and further test results will determine the extent of the problem. The club remains keen to retain Joelinton as a key asset and hopes to reach an agreement for a new contract. His absence, coupled with the suspension of Sandro Tonali, has heightened the team's need for a midfielder in the January transfer window, with potential interest in Manchester City's Phillips, among others.

On a personal note, Joelinton's unfortunate circumstances extended beyond his injury. His home was targeted by burglars while he was watching his team's match against Manchester City at St James' Park. Despite these challenges, Newcastle remains active in the transfer market as they aim to strengthen their squad and improve their season performance.

As the January transfer window progresses, fans and football enthusiasts eagerly await further developments and potential signings. The window officially opened on January 1 and will close at 11 pm on February 1 in England (midnight in Scotland).
