The Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has said he has no problem whatsoever with the club’s manager, Pep Guardiola, meeting the Manchester City sporting director, Txiki Begiristain, in Amsterdam on Monday.

The Spaniard, who will take over from Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad on 1 July, had a meeting with Begiristain at the Conservatorium hotel, while the sporting director also had discussions with Ilkay Gündogan’s representative and uncle, Ilhan, at the same location.

Rummenigge, however, was relaxed about the meeting, telling Bild: “That is no problem whatsoever. Pep Guardiola is doing a tremendous job for us every day. He is focused and is working intensely, just like he has been doing from day one. And what he does with his day off is up to him.”

Bayern are five points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga with nine games remaining and face Juventus in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie against Juventus next week.

Rummenigge added: “It is completely OK and legitimate [for him to plan ahead]. It would be naive to think that he would start doing so after 30 June.”

Bayern Munich’s next game is against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
