Bayern Munich handed injury boost ahead of Chelsea Champions League clash

Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez has returned to training ahead of the German sides' Champions League trip to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues host the Bundesliga club in the round of 16 tie on Tuesday as both clubs look to take an advantage into the second leg just over three weeks later.

Martinez has missed the last six league games due to a torn muscle bundle, having last played in the center of defence in a 2-0 Bundesliga win over Wolfsburg back in December.

But, a post on Bayern Munich's official social media channel confirms that the player is now back in training with his teammates.

Alongside a video of the team undergoing their preparations, Bayern simply posted: "Welcome back @Javi8martinez" with a waving emoji.

The Spaniard has played 17 times in all competitions so far this season and has played in both the center back and defensive midfield position.

Bayern's Croatian winger Ivan Perisic is a major doubt for the game after suffering a fractured ankle in training ahead of the Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig at the start of the month.

Both Jerome Boateng and Bejamin Pavard sat out the weekend's game against Paderborn due to yellow card suspensions but should be available for selection at Stamford Bridge.

If Martinez will be fit enough to make the squad vs Chelsea is still to be seen
