Bayern Munich handed injury blow with defender set to miss Spurs Champions League trip

Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has confirmed that left back David Alaba will not be fit in time for the Champions League trip to Spurs.

The Bundesliga clubs travel to take of Tottenham in the second group game of the competition at the start of October.

But Bayern will be without Alaba, who faces a further two or three weeks on the sidelines due to a thigh tear that caused him to miss the last Bundesliga game against RB Leipzig.

The German Champions host Red Star Belgrade in their opening Champions League match of the season on Wednesday evening, a game which Alaba will definitely miss.

"David will be out for two, maximum three weeks," said Kovac, as reported by as .

"Obviously, David is a really important player for us. Unfortunately he's going to be out for a couple of weeks but Lucas Hernandez won the World Cup in that position. He has a different interpretation of how to play at left-back than David does but he does a very good job.

"Alphonso [Davies] can play in that position, that's actually why we fielded him against Leipzig. He didn't play as a left-back but we fielded him so that he could work together with Lucas. Tomorrow is a Champions League game, it might be a bit different."

Alaba has played 349 times for Bayern Munich, winning one Champions League, five German Cups and eight German Championships.
