Bayern Munich fans rush Stamford Bridge barriers as arrests are made ahead of Chelsea fixture

Arrests have been made outside the away end of Stamford Bridge ahead of Chelsea's Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich.

A video has surfaced of the traveling support rushing through barriers in a bid to get into the stadium.

Several police officers can be seen attempting to calm the crowd but not to no avail.

The incident began with the away fans being held outside as many had shown up to the game without a ticket.

The Bayern supporters then charged the barriers in an attempt to get through.

According to the chief reporter of German publication BILD, Tobias Altschaffl, "a massive police operation was in process."

He added: "Several police officers with horses are on duty, fighting in front of the block."

Another freelancer, who specialises in Bundesliga football, was also outside the stadium when the barriers were rushed.

He said: "Heavy security for the travelling Bayern Munich fans at Stamford Bridge tonight.

"Just saw a couple looking for medical attention, one who’d lost a shoe and stewards calling for the ejection of anyone who appeared drunk. All tickets being checked before the gates."

It has also been reported that 'several' arrests have been made with Bayern fans objecting to being searched.

Chelsea host Bayern Munich in the last-16 of Europe's elite competition with the reverse fixture taking place next month, on March 18.
