Bayern Munich eye Kyle Walker signing but Pep Guardiola pushes for Man City defender to sign new deal

Bayern Munich are testing Manchester City’s resolve over Kyle Walker this summer.

The 33-year-old England defender is a key target for Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel. Walker is into the final year of his contract and is considering his options, with City at risk of losing him for free next summer.

Pep Guardiola is keen to give Walker a new contract after his exceptional performances that helped City win an historic treble.

Those displays came after Walker was initially left out of the side following City’s change in system, one that Guardiola claimed the defender could not perform in before eventually changing his mind.

“He cannot do it. He will always have pace, he will be the fastest in this room at 60. To play inside you have to make some movements, he has other characteristics,” Guardiola said in April.

Any sale will leave City short at the back, with Aymeric Laporte and Joao Cancelo also expected to depart this summer.

City are, however, widely tipped to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol in an £85million deal.
