Bayern Munich deliver Leroy Sane warning to Man City as transfer saga rumbles on

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummeenigge has suggested the club will not be held to ransom for Leroy Sane.

Manchester City want around £100million for the 24-year-old with the Germany winger keen on the move after falling in the Etihad pecking order under Pep Guardiola.

Rummenigge said: “There will still be players who demand a high price. But the big question is: Who is able to pay this price?

“Cash is a position that no longer exists on a large scale in professional football.

“Maybe it’s good that we are becoming a bit more rational and stable. After all, the risk for clubs has been increasing in recent years.”

Sane has missed the entire season after picking up a serious injury in City's Community Shield win over Liverpool back in August.

There were rumours of a move to Bavaria coming to fruition back then but his injury curtailed any possible exit.

Sane has been a quality performer since moving to Manchester from Schalke as one of Guardiola's first signings in 2016.

He has scored 39 goals in 134 games and is seen as a potential successor to Arjen Robben at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern had Robben and Franck Ribery on either flank for almost a decade but the duo called time on their careers in Germany last summer.

Serge Gnabry has become a crucial member of the squad, but the German giants are still keen to strengthen out wide.

Guardiola has regularly stated that he wants Sane to remain in Manchester but admitted in January that, with 18 months remaining on the player's deal, it is out of his hands.

"It's a question for Leroy, his agents and the club, I'm not involved in that," he said.
