Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng responds to Tottenham transfer interest

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has revealed his surprise to be linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho's search for a central defender continues after a long summer that saw him strongly linked with a move for Inter Miland star Milan Skriniar.

Skriniar remained in Italy while Swansea City youngster Joe Rodon arrived with a view to the future.

But now German World Cup winner Boateng has been linked with a move to North London, even if it's news to him!

The 32-year-old's contract in Munich will expire this coming summer and was asked about his future by Suddeutsche Zeitung with reports pointing to the supposed interest from Mourinho.

"Nobody approached me, nobody spoke to me, I didn’t know anything about it, I was surprised," he said.

Spurs could open negotiations with Boateng after the January transfer window about signing pre-contract terms.

And the defender has spoken previously about making a return to England, nine years on from leaving Manchester City

"I am definitely down for it, but I don’t know for the future," he told the Guardian.

"You never know. But it’s not that I would say: 'I never want to play there.' It's one of my favourite leagues for sure."
