Bayern Munich consider Arsene Wenger as Arsenal legend stalls over Fifa role

Bayern Munich are considering hijacking Arsene Wenger’s proposed move to FIFA as the Frenchman ponders a return to management.

Standard Sport understands that despite reports suggesting the 70-year-old had accepted a job as technical director at FIFA, he has in fact been stalling over whether to accept the position for several months.

Wenger left Arsenal in the summer of 2018 and has enjoyed a break from the game since, having continued his media work and recently agreed terms to write his autobiography.

However, Bayern sacked Niko Kovac on Monday and after Red Bull Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick ruled himself out of contention, reports in Germany claim Wenger is now the frontrunner.

Wenger evaded questions about the Bayern job when talking to beIN SPORTS on Tuesday night but when asked whether he missed coaching, the Frenchman said: “Of course. Coaching was my whole life until now and everybody who has coached will tell you the same.

“You miss the intensity. There are some things you miss big and some things you don’t miss. So I enjoyed as well things I don’t miss too much, but on the other hand football games, winning football games, preparing the team for a game, developing players and satisfaction from sharing emotions is something that you miss.

“Even if I miss it, to get a little bit out of that pressure for a year was not too bad for me. People who know me well say I am more relaxed, it is true!”
