Bayern Munich chief sends message to Man Utd over Thomas Muller transfer

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has insisted Thomas Muller will not be leaving the club in the near future despite reporting linking the forward with a move to Manchester United .

Muller has been at Bayern for his whole career, scoring 186 goals in 498 appearances for the Bavarian giants in all competitions, but he has not been so prolific so far this season, with no Bundesliga goal in nine games.

United have been linked with a whole host of strikers who could solve their goalscoring woes, including the likes of Juventus ' Mario Mandzukic and Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Erling Braut Haaland .

But it looks as though Muller will not be a player who they can tempt to Old Trafford, with Salihamidzic claiming Bayern's injury troubles mean they are not willing to let the 30-year-old go for now.

Speaking about the rumours Salihamidzic said: "That's a story you want to write. We have two players (Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez) out for months and you are trying to tell us to sell a player.

"There's no reason for doing this."

Bayern boast a whole host of attacking options, including the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman, and it looks as though Muller is no longer their first-choice centre forward by any means.

Nevertheless, it would appear their manager Niko Kovac is still keen to have him around the squad, meaning United will have to look elsewhere for a forward in the winter transfer window.

United have scored just 13 goals in 10 Premier League games so far this season, although they did find their scoring boots in their most recent game, a 3-1 win over Norwich which was their first Premier League away victory since February.

United next face another away trip when they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
