Bayern Munich boss comments on Robert Lewandowski future after Man City transfer link

Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is not pleased to be speaking about Robert Lewandowski's future, with the suggestion that Manchester City are interested in the world-class striker.

It's no secret that the Premier League champions are in the hunt for a number nine this summer, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane one of the club's top targets.

Reports have suggested that City have had a £100m bid for the England captain turned down but are willing to up that price.

Now there have been reports that City could look elsewhere in their search for an elite centre forward and are monitoring the Lewandowski's contract situation.

The Poland striker has two years remaining on his current deal at Bayern Munich, which is worth more than £300,000 a week.

Lewandowski would certainly fit City's bill after he scored 48 goals in 40 games in all competitions last season and also won the UEFA Men's Player of the Year award in 2020.

Though the 32 year old is five years older than Kane, he has the benefit of having played under Pep Guardiola before.

Guardiola was Lewandowski's manager from 2014 to 2016, winning two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup in their time together before the Spaniard joined Manchester City.

It's not the ideal situation for Nagelsmann, who has just recently become Bayern Munich manager after replacing Hansi Flick.

"The rumours about Robert Lewandowski have been around for ages, I think since he joined Bayern Munich," he said to Sky Germany.

"I think it's normal for someone who scores so many goals that almost every club puts out a feeler.

"I think on one hand Robert knows what he has in Munich, what he has in this team. I've spoken to him and texted him. I'm not very fond of the first official act with a player being to immediately discuss his contractual situation."
