Bayern Munich boss addresses Thiago Alcantara's future amid Liverpool transfer rumours

Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has addressed speculation linking Thiago Alcantara with a move away from his side.

Liverpool have been credited with an interest in the 29-year-old midfielder, who has a year left on his contract with the Bundesliga champions.

It has been reported that Jurgen Klopp is interested in bringing Thiago to Anfield, and it has even been claimed in some quarters that a deal is “very close”.

However, the ECHO understands that the rumours surrounding Liverpool’s interest in Thiago are unfounded.

Given the player’s age, the rumoured asking price (£30m) and the variety of options already at Klopp’s disposal, Liverpool are not thought to be in need of adding a player of Thiago’s ilk to their squad.

Despite these rumours, Flick has admitted that he “hopes” the Spaniard remains at the club beyond the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking about Thiago’s potential departure, Flick said: "I hope he won't go.”

Thiago has spent seven seasons in Munich, during which time he has won seven consecutive Bundesliga titles as well as three German Cup and a Super Cup triumph in 2013.
