Bayern Munich apologise to Man City as Leroy Sane deal nears completion

Manchester City have accepted an apology from an embarrassed Bayern Munich after images circulated of Leroy Sane wearing the shirt of his new team before a transfer has been confirmed.

The two clubs agreed a fee of £55m this week to allow the player to seal a switch to the Bundesliga champions, and the decision was made for Sane to prematurely end his season as well as his City career. As the Blues were thrashing Liverpool 4-0, the 24-year-old winger was in Munich having spent the day sorting out the final details that will allow him to sign for his new team.

However, a deal has not yet been confirmed and the transfer window remains shut so it came as some surprise to see photographs of Sane wearing a Bayern shirt emerge online. That prompted the German club to dash to the phone and give their Blues counterparts a call to say sorry; City have accepted the apology.

Bayern were also forced to say sorry to City last season when their coach at the time Niko Kovac publicly stated he was confident Sane would join the club despite no offer being forthcoming. No terms were agreed before the Community Shield, where Sane started and suffered a cruciate ligament injury that saw him miss the majority of the season.

His only league minutes for the Blues this season came off the bench against Burnley on June 22 in what has turned out to be his final appearance for the club.
