Bayern Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba issues update amid Chelsea transfer links

Bayern Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba has admitted that 'there is nothing concrete' with Chelsea amid transfer links.

Chelsea have been linked with a number of high-profile players this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to close the gap between his side and last season's Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Blues have lost out to Paris Saint-Germain for Inter Milan wingback Achraf Hakimi and continue to be linked with Borussia Dortmund frontman Erling Haaland, as well as West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice.

Another name that the current champions of Europe have been reportedly eyeing is Bayer Leverkusen central-defender Edmond Tapsoba - with German outlet SportsBild claiming that Chelsea were interested in the 22-year-old last month.

However, Tapsoba has been quick to play down any reports linking him with a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer, claiming that he will start next season with Leverkusen instead.

"With Chelsea FC, for the moment, there is nothing concrete, nothing official", Tapsoba told Burkina Info, quoted in Afriquesports.

"What I can say is that I will start my season with Bayer Leverkusen. We keep our fingers crossed for God to guide us to the right path."

Tapsoba currently has a long-term contract until 2026 at Leverkusen and they reportedly value him in the region of £60million as the Bundesliga side see him as a vital part of their plans going forward.

The club's sports director Simon Rolfes recently said: "Edmond should also play a very important role for us next season."

The Blues' London rivals Arsenal have also been named as potential suitors of Tapsoba, but given the Gunners are targeting Brighton defender Ben White it is unlikely that they would also make a move for the Burkina Faso international.
