Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick has offered an ‘update’ over Liverpool-linked Thiago Alcantara’s future after their Champions League triumph over Paris St Germain.
The Bavarians joined the Reds on six European Cup victories to go joint third on the all-time rankings by 13-times winners Real Madrid and AC Milan (7) thanks to a header from Kingsley Coman – a Parisian who started his career with PSG.
Thiago produced a solid display in the engine room and his pass started the move for the only goal of the game at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon (the venue was switched from Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium where Liverpool lifted the trophy in 2005 after the coronavirus pandemic).
With Bayern’s extended 2019/20 campaign now finally over, the business of resolving the Spain international’s future can finally begin.
Now into the final year of his contract, the player is believed to be looking for a new challenge.
And for their part it seems that the newly-crowned European champions would rather cash in on him now than risk losing him for nothing on a Bosman-style free transfer next summer.
Liverpool of course have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old for several weeks - but as for any potential suitors, there would be financial hurdles to jump in the current climate.
The Reds have indicated Thiago is not an active target and it remains to be seen whether the situation could develop.

When asked about the midfielder’s future in his post-match press conference, Flick said: “He told me that he would stay [at Bayern]."
He kept a straight face for several seconds before laughing - and then explained what him and his player really spoke about after the final whistle.
The 55-year-old, who replaced Niko Kovac in November as caretaker boss before being handed a permanent deal, added: “No, I just thanked him. Just like I did every other player.
"I don't know [where his future lies], he doesn't know himself yet. Because we all focused on this Champions League final.
“We'll have to wait and see what happens in the following days.”
