Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says they are expecting an offer in the coming days for Liverpool-linked Thiago Alcantara.
With the Spanish international looking for a fresh challenge after seven years in the Bundesliga and Bayern chiefs eager to cash in on the midfielder before he becomes a free agent next summer, Bayern have been widely-tipped to sell Thiago in the current transfer window.
It’s understood that Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the 29-year-old but Anfield chiefs have made clear that the midfielder is not an active target.
However, Sport Bild’s chief reporter Tobi Altschaffl says that Herr Rummenigge told Julien Wolff (the Bayern reporter for WELT) and himself: “We are expecting an offer these days.”
Last Sunday, Thiago helped Bayern win their sixth European Cup with a commanding display in their 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Lisbon and Herr Rummenigge added: “It was important for him that he showed that he can play well in the big games. When he leaves Bayern Munich, that hurts a bit.”
Altschaffl relayed this information on Twitter and when asked by a Liverpool fan if he still thinks it’s Liverpool (who will try to sign Thiago), he replied: “Yes.”
