Bayern chief executive appears to contradict president on Man City star Leroy Sane transfer interest

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge appears to have distanced the club from comments their president made last week about Leroy Sane .

The Bundesliga champions spent the summer in a  long and public pursuit of the Manchester City star as they sought a superstar replacement for the outgoing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. An agreement between all parties was never close, though, and the cruciate ligament damage suffered by Sane in the Community Shield in August put an end to the move.

Uli Hoeness, club president, suggested that their interest in the player is very much alive as he said that club bosses will "sit down in January and February" to assess how his recovery is going.

However, when asked by reporters about another potential move Rummenigge moved to downplay the fresh speculation created by one of his colleagues.

"To be honest I have no eye on him at all because I don't speak about players of other clubs in public," he said.

“The FIFA rules don't allow that anyway. And I will always stick to that."
