Bayer Leverkusen v Rangers winners set to play in 11-day final eight tournament

The winners of Rangers' outstanding Europa League tie against Bayer Leverkusen are set to compete in an eight-team tournament over 11 days in Germany.

As reported by Sky Sport in Italy, the outstanding Inter v Getafe and Roma v Sevilla fixtures last 16 are set be played in Germany, with the lockdown having come before either leg could be played.

Rangers lost the first leg against Leverkusen 3-1 at Ibrox, and Steven Gerrard's side will play the second leg behind closed doors in Germany. Under the new format, the winners would go through to a mini tournament featuring the final eight teams.

That would take place in four German cities from August 10-21. It is reported that the decision has been arrived at by UEFA, and is expected to be confirmed by the executive committee during a summit on Wednesday.

The final would be played in Cologne, which would also host final eight matches alongside Duisburg, Gelsenkirchen and Düsseldorf.

A study released today, meanwhile, confirmed that Rangers are awarded more penalties than any other Scottish Premiership side.

As reported in The Herald, the CIES Football Observatory report covering Premiership matches in 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2019/20 says that the Ibrox club receive a penalty every 411 minutes.

Celtic trail in seventh place, receiving on average one penalty every 681 minutes.
