Bayer Leverkusen's fate could provide Chelsea a Kai Havertz transfer boost that saves £20m

Bayern Leverkusen's Bundesliga fate could dictate the price at which Chelsea are able to lad Kai Havertz this summer.

Having already funded a significant outlay for Hakim Ziyech and £47.5m Timo Werner but there is a sense they are not done yet.

Havertz has been closely linked after an impressive start to the season but his club are asking for in the region of £90m for his signature. However, if they fail to qualify for the Champions league that could see the figure drop closer to Chelsea's reported £70m valuation.

Die Werkself lie one point clear of Borussia Monchengladbach in fourth place at the moment - this would see them qualify for Europe's prestige competition.

There are just two Budesliga matches remaining this season where Leverkusen are set to take on Hertha Berlin before Mainz on the final day of the season. The latter side defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 away from home in their last clash but they could be safe before they meet Havertz and co.

Monchengladbach face bottom side Paderborn before themselves taking on Hertha so there will be no room for slip ups from either team with qualification on the line.

The fifth-placed-side do have a superior goal difference at the moment which could be crucial too.

Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has already noted that the club could be open to selling their prized asset - if Havertz wishes to leave despite the length of his contract.

"Many clubs are interested in him," he told German paper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger.

"I see the player’s wish to take the next step sometime in the near future.

"You have to respect that as much as the fact that he has a contract in until 2022."
