Bayer Leverkusen in pre Celtic injury sweat that could open door for former Parkhead transfer target

Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly monitoring the fitness of centre-back Odilon Kossounou ahead of their clash with Celtic.

The defender was substituted with a thigh problem during the club's Bundesliga victory over Mainz on Saturday

Kicker report Leverkusen 's medical staff have ruled out a serious problem for Kossounou but he may still be sidelined for Thursday's Europa League encounter at Celtic Park.

And that could open the door for Piero Hincapie to start to the group stage showdown.

Hincapie was linked with Celtic as a potential defensive solution for Ange Postecoglou during the summer.

The Parkhead boss signed Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers as Hincapie joined Leverkusen from Argentinian outfit Talleres.

The 19-year-old has made three substitute appearances for his new club - including an opening night Euro win over Ferencvaros - but could now be in line for a first start if Kossounou is not risked.

Celtic have injury issues of their own, with captain Callum McGregor remaining doubtful for Thursday and Sunday's journey north to face Aberdeen.

However, it's reported Scotland boss Steve Clarke is still set to name the midfielder in his squad for World Cup qualifiers against Israel and the Faroe Islands.

Clarke's selection is expected to be revealed around 3pm on Tuesday.
