Bayer Leverkusen hit with Rangers rethink as UEFA deliver Ibrox training session no-go

Bundesliga big boys Bayer Leverkusen will leave for Glasgow at the last minute after being told they can’t train on the battered Ibrox pitch.

Euro chiefs usually insist visiting teams get the chance to prepare at the venue 24 hours before kick-off.

But UEFA have been forced to order the Germans to stay clear as the Rangers pitch has been badly cut up during a brutal winter and busy period of home games

That rule appears to have been softened to avoid any further damage to a surface which has cut up badly during the treacherous winter conditions.

Leverkusen will now train in the Rhineland on Wednesday before jetting out for the Europa League last 16 first leg against Rangers .

Braga were also forced to avoid the Ibrox pitch before their game in Glasgow last month.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen star Leon Bailey is relishing a showdown against the Ibrox side and their world famous manager.

He said: " Steven Gerrard is a legend. Of course I admired him as a player. He was an incredible player. He must have gained a lot of knowledge as a player and I am sure he would have passed this on to the Rangers squad.

“We have to prepared for anything that they throw at us. We are going there to get the job done.”
