Bayer Leverkusen boss desperate for Rangers Europa League return leg despite health being deemed 'high risk' to coronavirus

Bayer Leverkusen manager Peter Bosz has got behind the Bundesliga's return and declared himself unafraid of catching COVID-19 despite having asthma and being considered high risk.

And the Dutch boss insists he is desperate to play Rangers in the Europa League in their postponed second leg clash.

The Bundesliga will return to action next weekend and will become the first major European league to get back playing after the outbreak of the pandemic.

Bayer Leverkusen 's last match was in Glasgow and they returned to Germany with a 3-1 win at Rangers in the Last 16 first leg clash.

They will face Werder Bremen a week tomorrow in the Bundesliga and Bosz admits he can't wait to get back to football, even if it is behind closed doors.

And despite being an 'asthmatic old man', the 56-year-old insists he isn't worried.

He said: "There is no fear here. I talk to the players a lot and I haven't had anyone who said they were afraid.

"We have taken a lot of measures here at the club since we started again. We are tested regularly, which makes you feel good because you know you are being watched.

"And the players are less at risk than me. I am an old man and an asthma patient. And I am not afraid either, even though I belong to the high risk group because of my respiratory condition.

"It was fun being back training. It smells like football again.

"I noticed the guys are all very fresh. We haven't played since the Rangers game in Scotland and they are all desperate to get back.

"Now there is a game, we have something to aim for. Playing on a Monday is an advantage too because we can see how teams cope with the ghost games with no fans.

"It's new for me too and I have been in professional sports for 40 years. I know the world will be looking to the Bundesliga for hope.

"We want to get back playing in the league and then finish our Europa League second leg game with Rangers. At the moment that is supposed to be in August and we all want to get on with that too. We just need UEFA to tell us officially and then we can play that too."
