
The Marine Rescue Batemans Bay unit at Hanging Rock has been used as a makeshift evacuation centre, assisting about 50 people throughout the day, and caravans and boats parked around the base at night on New Year's Eve.
Marine Rescue Narooma had also opened its grounds to allow people to camp and use its facilities. Unit members also stayed on site overnight.
MRNSW volunteers spent the day assisting at local evacuation centres at Hanging Rock at Batemans Bay, the Sapphire Club at Merimbula, the Eden Fishermen's Recreational Club and the Bermagui Surf Life Saving Club, where hundreds of people evacuated to the beachfront early on New Year's Eve.

Senior personnel were also rostered on duty as liaison officers at local Emergency Operations Centres.
Batemans Bay Marine Rescue unit commander Richard Blundell said all of their vessels were on stand-by and in the water.
He said a number of Marine Rescue members also needed to return home to defend their properties yesterday.
Commissioner Stacey Tannos said the region had suffered traumatic losses of life and property and damage to the environment in the fires.
"Marine Rescue NSW will continue to provide any support needed to the bushfire emergency operation and impacted communities," he said.
"Our volunteers are deeply involved in and committed to their communities and we will make sure we provide any possible support requested and assist people in any way we can, including opening our doors to provide a safe haven for residents and visitors who have been forced to leave their homes or holiday accommodation."
MRNSW units on the Far South Coast were putting contingency plans in place to overcome the likely loss of communications caused by power outages that are expected to leave widespread areas without phone or internet coverage overnight.
The Narooma, Batemans Bay and Ulladulla units will be operational around the clock and will have a physical callout process in place if crews cannot be contacted by phone.
The Marine Rescue Terrey Hills radio base monitored communications to Bermagui and Eden overnight.
