Bay City Roller Woody hailed hero after rescuing lost dog trapped down hole

Bay City Roller Stuart “Woody” Wood has been hailed a hero after rescuing a lost dog that was trapped down a hole for three days.

The rocker and his wife Denise were on holiday in North Berwick when they learned that black Labrador Kruger had vanished while on a walk with his owner.

Stuart, who was taking a break after a sold-out gig in Canada with the Rollers, decided to help find the dog.

The search had been unsuccessful until Stuart and Denise scoured a building site – and found Kruger clinging to life stuck down a hole.

Stuart, 62, said: “Denise saw Kruger had gone missing and thought we’d be able to find him. A search party had already combed the area.”

“We were out for just 20 minutes and I couldn’t believe it when I looked into a very dark corner and saw some eyes looking up at me from three foot down.

“Kruger was inside a drain and was terrified. He had been there for two nights. If we hadn’t found him, he would’ve been a goner.”

His owner Janette Murray couldn’t believe it when her dog was found. She said: “We’re so happy we got him back and I’m eternally grateful.”

Kruger is now home and enjoying all the extra attention from his family.
