Bauer strong again, Lindor homers in Indians' sixth consecutive win

CLEVELAND _ Trevor Bauer walked off to another standing ovation and Francisco Lindor hit his second home run in as many days in the Indians' 4-1 win over the Detroit Tigers Saturday night.

It was the Indians' sixth consecutive win. They have outscored their opponents 42-7 during the winning streak.

Bauer (7-5) allowed one run on five hits and two walks in 61/3 innings to go with 11 strikeouts. It was the fifth time in his past six outings that he notched double-digit strikeouts. In doing so, he lowered his ERA to 2.44 and continued his push to be in the American League Cy Young conversation.

The Indians (42-33) put together a three-run first inning against Tigers starting pitcher Francisco Liriano (3-3). Lindor opened the inning with an infield single, Michael Brantley walked and Jose Ramirez followed with an RBI single to center field, the second consecutive day that those three reached base to open the first inning. Brantley was thrown out trying to advance to third, but the Indians took a 1-0 lead.

After a wild pitch moved Ramirez up to second base, Edwin Encarnacion rifled a single into center field to score Ramirez. Two batters later, with Encarnacion on second base, Brandon Guyer singled to center field. Leonys Martin's throw to the plate beat Encarnacion by several steps, but Encarnacion's feet-first slide knocked the ball loose from catcher James McCann, making it a three-run inning.

Ramirez's single extended his on-base streak to 30 games, the longest of his career and the second-longest active streak behind Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, who extended his to 36 games Saturday night.

Lindor then opened the fifth against Tigers reliever Alex Wilson by belting a solo home run to right field, his 18th homer of the season.

Oliver Perez, Neil Ramirez and Cody Allen (16 saves) finished it with 22/3 hitless innings.
