Battling draw at Leeds is a solid platform for Nottingham Forest to build on

For those that watched the first half at Elland Road, you’d have expected Leeds United to have gone on and won Saturday lunchtime’s encounter with Nottingham Forest.

A first half of almost total dominance from Marcelo Bielsa's Whites, but while huff and puff they did, the Reds' defence just would not be breached.

As it was, and for all their play, Sabri Lamouchi’s Reds refused to lie down, they refused to wilt under the at-times incessant barrage of balls into their box and in Lewis Grabban, they had a fox in the box, somebody who came alive when it mattered to prod in the equaliser.

Leeds and their 33,000 or so home supporters, who shouted for each and every decision to go their way, they’ll argue Forest deserved nothing from a game in which their side dominated for long periods, but the Reds will counter that by saying their desire and battling qualities earned them a point.

It’s a first point for Lamouchi and a fine response after last weekend’s disappointing start at home to West Brom, and will see them confident going into Saturday’s home clash with Birmingham City by which point they’ll have faced Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

After a pulsating encounter at Elland Road, Barry Cooper and Sarah Clapson reflected on a solid away point for the travelling Reds.
