Battling Bullets to be without injured stars for weeks

The Brisbane Bullets' nightmare NBL run has continued with confirmation injured stars Javon Freeman-Liberty and Sam McDaniel are both set to be sidelined for at least one month.

US import Freeman-Liberty (hamstring) and wing McDaniel (calf) will sit out the next four weeks before their respective injuries are reassessed.

Centre Tyrell Harrison will also miss at least one more game as he moves through concussion protocols, following a head knock in the Bullets' defeat to Perth on January 1.

In better news, guard Taine Murray will return from an ankle injury for Saturday's road game against Cairns (6-17), who sent the Bullets (6-18) to the bottom of the ladder when they upset Melbourne United on Wednesday.

Brisbane have endured a torrid run of injuries to key men throughout their tough campaign, which reached a low point when Stu Lash departed as coach last month.

Casey Prather (knee) and Lamar Patterson (hamstring) have been ruled out for the rest of the season and Dakota Mathias (shoulder) won't return until next month.

Now under the guidance of interim coach Darryl McDonald, the Bullets have won just one of their past 12 games.

Elsewhere, the title-contending Sydney Kings will be without former league MVP Xavier Cooks (ankle) for their game away to New Zealand on Friday night.

Cooks was hurt in the Kings' last start defeat to South East Melbourne and there is no timeline yet on his return.

The Kings' latest setback comes after confirmation Bul Kuol (knee) will miss the rest of the season, joining Keli Leuepepe (knee) and Jason Spurgin (foot) on the sidelines.
