1) It doesn’t get easier for Brendan Rodgers. A fortnight after his side took a pasting in Spain, it’s ‘Battle’ of Britain week: Celtic versus Manchester City on Wednesday. He can take heart, though, from some notable BoB classics – including Celtic’s 2-1 1970 European Cup semi-final win over Don Revie’s Leeds in front of 136,000 at Hampden Park; Rangers winning both legs of 1992’s clash with Leeds; Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen undoing Uefa Cup holders Ipswich in 1981; and Celtic beating Liverpool on the way to the 2003 Uefa Cup final.
2) Life’s good right now for Lamar Jackson – Louisville Cardinals’ Heisman Trophy favourite and teen Sports Illustrated coverstar. Here’s a flavour: an Eminem backed showreel, a high-school highlight, some more high-school highlights, an engaging post-game chat, and this: HE HAS THE JETS, AND HE TURNS THEM ON. He’s the American football version of this kid.
3) A change of pace: some hardcore whiff-whaff. Gets weirder as it goes on.
4) How Pong looked on the Atari in 1972. And how Pong looks now.
5) Ken Block’s Gymkhana NINE: Raw Industrial Playground. If you like that sort of thing.
6) And expect more of this in next year’s Tour.
Highlights from last week’s blog
1) Drone surfing is a thing now. Still not as diverting as last weekend’s drone cameo in Bradford, mind.
2) A pretty startling European Drag Bike moment from 2014. Filippos Papafilippou loses control of his bike – so hops onto the one next to him instead.
3) Watch as two competitive dads take down 30 ankle-biters.
4) One of the summer’s must-see Paralympics moments: Iran’s Behzad Zadaliasghar skips, jinks and blooters his side to a 2-0 win over Morocco.
5) Another Hollywood footballer: watch as Paul Breitner pours coffee in 1975’s Potato Fritz. And some Harchester United action – brutality from Dream Team series 8. You’ll never look at a coat peg the same way again.
