Battlehawks? Football fans react to the XFL’s team names

The XFL is quickly approaching its February 2020 launch date, and ahead of the inaugural XFL player draft in October, the names and logos of the league’s eight teams were finally revealed on Wednesday.

  • New York Guardians
  • D.C. Defenders
  • Tampa Vipers
  • St. Louis BattleHawks
  • Los Angeles Wildcats
  • Dallas Renegades
  • Houston Roughnecks
  • Seattle Dragons

You can make a strong argument that the XFL came up with better names than the AAF, but that’s a low bar to clear. Here’s what fans were saying on Twitter during the reveal, which featured a dramatic vignette for each city.
