"Battlefield 6" players were briefly optimistic after the game's latest update appeared to introduce one of the community's most requested quality-of-life improvements. However, that excitement quickly faded when Battlefield Studios confirmed the feature had been announced by mistake and was never intended to be included in the update.
The confusion followed the June 30 "Battlefield" 6 update, which introduced weapon balancing changes, gunplay improvements, and a new game mode.
Alongside those additions, an in-game notification stated that XP boosts would now count down only during active matches instead of in real time. The announcement was welcomed by players who have long criticized the current system.
'Battlefield 6' Players Want Match-Based XP Boosts
Since "Battlefield 6" launched, XP boosters have operated on a real-time countdown. This means the timer continues to run while players wait in matchmaking queues, load into games, customize their loadouts, or take breaks between matches.
Many players argue that this system wastes valuable double XP time before gameplay even begins. As a result, one of the most requested quality-of-life improvements has been changing XP boosts so they only count down while players are actively participating in matches.
The June 30 notification appeared to confirm exactly that change. It explained that XP boosts would be calculated based on the percentage of time a player remained active during a match. Even if a booster expired before the match ended, players would still receive bonus XP proportional to the time it was active.
Earlier today, an in-game message about XP Boosters was sent in error. That message has now been removed, and there are no changes to how XP Boosters currently work.

The update also indicated that the Booster menu had been moved to the lobby, making it easier for players to activate and manage XP boosts before entering a match.
Battlefield Studios Says the Notification Was Published in Error
Players quickly noticed that XP boosts continued to function exactly as they had before the update. Shortly afterward, Battlefield Studios addressed the issue through its official Battlefield Comms account.
The developer confirmed that the in-game message had been published accidentally and clarified that no changes had been made to the XP boost system. The incorrect notification was later removed from the game.
While the clarification resolved the confusion, it also disappointed many players who believed one of the game's most requested improvements had finally arrived.
Second XP Boost Mistake Fuels Community Speculation
According to GameSpot, the incident was not the first of its kind.
Following the June 11 update, "Battlefield 6" displayed another incorrect in-game message suggesting that XP boost changes had been implemented. Battlefield Studios later clarified that the announcement was also made in error.
Because two nearly identical notifications appeared within a matter of weeks, some players now believe the feature may already exist internally but has not yet been approved for release.
Will 'Battlefield 6' Receive an XP Boost Rework?
Battlefield Studios has not announced any plans to overhaul the XP boost system, but the repeated appearance of the same feature description has fueled speculation throughout the community.
The controversy came just four months after EA laid off "Battlefield" staff despite the game's breakthrough in 2025.
For now, fans have to wait for the official announcement and hope that the accidental feature won't be messed up this time.
