Battlefield 6 challenge overhaul makes the grind easier, but fans say it misses the point

The Battlefield Team of EA and DICE are showing they’re paying attention to feedback with a major Battlefield 6 challenge overhaul, drastically reducing the grind needed to complete them.

In a BF6 Community Update released on Nov. 5, the developers announced over 90 adjustments to make challenges and assignments more achievable, without removing the sense of skill-based progression. According to them, the update is “guided by gameplay data and your feedback,” streamlining requirements so players can finish challenges faster while still feeling rewarded for consistent, skillful play.

“Challenges and assignments are tuned around defined playtime targets, and these changes bring their requirements in line with those goals to make them more achievable within a reasonable session length,” the Battlefield Team explained.

Key changes in the Battlefield 6 challenge overhaul

One of the most noticeable changes is that class challenges now complete much faster, reducing the time investment needed to progress through each role. For example, the Assault 2 assignment tasking you to have squadmates deploy on your Spawn Beacon 50 times is now reduced to just five.

Meanwhile, weapon-type assignments for categories such as ARs, SMGs, LMGs, shotguns, DMRs, sniper rifles, and carbines have been simplified. This makes it easier for players to experiment with different weapon types without feeling tied down by overly demanding objectives.

The developers have also streamlined mode-specific assignments, such as those found in Conquest, Rush, Breakthrough, and Domination. These now require only two wins per tier, making it clearer and more straightforward for players to pursue specific game mode challenges.

Lastly, the more advanced Expert and Master assignments, which include requirements like multi-kills, headshots, kill streaks, and revives, have been fine-tuned to match the natural rhythm of gameplay. Instead of being based on rare, high-performance moments, these challenges now reflect average in-match performance, making them feel fair and achievable for most players.

You will find that any progress you’ve already made will automatically carry over, and if the new requirements are already met, challenges will unlock the next time you jump into a match.

The devs also confirmed that this is just the first phase of a larger progression system rework, with more changes planned in future server-side and client-side updates.

Players want fixes, not just easier challenges

While many players welcomed the BF6 challenge updates, others feel this update doesn’t address the game’s bigger issues. “Disappointed. Again. The rebalancing of challenges is the kind of update that should be secondary,” a player said on X (formerly Twitter). “Right now the priority is fixing bugs, improving in-game visibility, and ideally rebalancing the classes.”

Another fan echoed the sentiment: “Nice changes. But it’s been over a week since Season 1 dropped and there’s still this beeping sound that destroys your ears after the enemy attacks a point. C’mon… I shouldn’t have to mute the entire game’s SFX just to play it without losing my mind.”

Some players also believe that the original challenges weren’t the real issue. Instead, they argue that the system’s poor tracking made progression feel inconsistent, saying that fixing the tracking would have been a better first step.

Personally, I see this overhaul as a good move toward making Battlefield 6’s progression system feel less punishing. However, I agree that fixing the broken tracking system should’ve come first. For many fans, though, this still isn’t the update they were hoping for. Until EA and DICE tackle the core gameplay issues and lingering bugs, some players might find these challenge tweaks more like quality-of-life seasoning rather than the main course.
