Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone reveal: Everything you need to know about new game mode

DICE and EA have revealed Battlefield 2042's new game mode, Hazard Zone.

In a premiere trailer posted on YouTube, the trailer revealed that Hazard Zone will be a squad-focused competitive game mode.

While developers at DICE have stressed recently that this wouldn't be a battle royale mode, it shares pretty much all the same characteristics of a battle royale mode.

EA has stated that players will have to "scavenge for valuable resources as foes and cataclysmic storms close in."

In Hazard Zone, players will take on the role of an Elite Task Force who have been assigned the role of retrieving Data Drives.

The basics of Hazard Zone

Players must work in squads during Hazard Zone (EA)

Squads must locate, gather, and extract these drives before the map is taken over by a storm, presumably eliminating any remaining players.

Players will begin each game of Hazard Zone at the Mission Area Briefing which provides an overview of the map.

This overview will provide players with key info to finding the Data Drives, including the highest probability locations to find them.

Players will also be able to choose a Specialist before deploying into the map to allow them to adapt to any map or strategy.

Once deployed, players will be able to use a scanner to locate the Data Drives.

Before deploying, players will be able to get an idea of where Data Drives are (EA)

Squads should be careful however as there are AI-controlled enemies scattered throughout the map who are more than capable of taking out your squad.

After retrieving enough Data Drives, players will have the opportunity to head to an Extraction Zone with only a short amount of time to get there.

The trouble doesn't end after reaching the Extraction Zone, however, squads must defend themselves against the AI forces and enemy squads.

Once the first extraction is complete, the storm becomes more vigilant, making the map more dangerous.

There will also be only one last chance to extract after this point.

There are plenty of obstacles on the map to prevent players from successfully extracting (EA)

Player progression

Squads that successfully extract Data Drives will be rewarded with DMC among bonuses depending on your performance in the match.

The more Data Drives you collect in a match, the more XP you gain which will go towards your overall Battlepass level.

The better your performance in Hazard Zone, the better the rewards (EA)

More DMC also means more to spend on equipment and upgrades in future matches.

Players will also have the opportunity to gain an Extraction Streak marker for their chosen Specialist.

This marker will reduce the cost of weapons, equipment and tactical items, however, if you fail to extract in a match that marker and all its benefits will disappear until you get back on a winning streak.

Battlefield 2042 is due to launch on November 19.
