Scottish youth international Cormac Sharpe has enjoyed further golfing success on home soil.
Hard on the heels of capturing the club championship at Blairgowrie Golf Club, the local teenager shared the honours in a 54-hole “Battle at Blair” tournament which featured talent drawn from across Scotland.
Former Open champion Paul Lawrie thrilled the kids by taking-in some of the weekend action.
With Scottish Golf’s youth schedule wrecked by the virus, the Perthshire venue stepped-up to host a three-day tournament aimed at U18 and U15 development players from across the country.
Twenty-seven of the top youngsters teed-up over Rosemount and Lansdowne.
Barrie Douglas Foundation ambassador Sharpe (16) continued where he left off in the club championship, carding an eight-under par 207 total. That was matched by Nairn’s Calum Scott, with another Blair starlet and BDF ambassador Gregor Graham sharing fifth place.
Also competing in the under-18 section was Auchterarder’s Daniel Bullen, who has been in fine form since golf was given the green light to return following the COVID-19 outbreak.
Youth coach and BDF trustee Spencer Henderson, who is based at the Paul Lawrie Centre, said: “It was encouraging to enjoy support from Steven Morgan, Stuart Graham and everyone at Blairgowrie Golf Club, where Barrie was a member for many years.
“The hastily-arranged event went really well and we have enjoyed very positive feedback.
“It was great to see the older boys mixing with the younger ones to give them a bit more experience of playing with internationalists.
“We have a Ryder Cup style match this weekend featuring a Barrie Douglas Select captained by Cormac against a Stephen Gallacher Select over two days at Castle Park in Gifford.
“It began as an eight-a-side event but has grown to feature 32 players from the various foundations, joined by a few others.”
The under-15 event honours at Blairgowrie last week were shared by Loretto School’s Oliver Mukherjee and Gullane’s Andrew Hendry on five-over. Blair member Connor Graham was fourth on 12-over.
In addition to competitive golf, there were short game and putting challenges, along with Trackman sessions.
