Battersea stabbing: Man dies from stab injuries after daylight fight in London

A 40-year man has died after being stabbed on a south London street in broad daylight, Scotland Yard said.

The victim was rushed to hospital after the attack in Latchmere Road in Battersea on Wednesday afternoon, but died of his injuries early this evening.

Police had been called out to reports of a fight at around 2.45pm and attended the scene with the London Ambulance Service.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and found a 40-year-old man suffering from stab injuries,” said a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.

“He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries at 7.40pm. His next of kin are aware. A post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course. We await formal identification.”

Photos showed the junction of Latchmere Road and Battersea Park Road cordoned off as police investigators searched the scene for evidence.

There have been no arrests, but the Met said both Homicide and Major Crime Command had been informed of the death and work was under way to establish what happened.

“We dispatched an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic, a medic in a response car and an ambulance crew,” said a spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service. “We treated a person at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre.”
